"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." Buddha

Yoga has changed my life in so many ways. This quote from Buddha sums up how my experience of practicing Asanas and meditation has allowed me to find my own peace in accepting each moment as it is. Yoga has allowed me the opportunity to find balance in my life, and teach me more about myself.

My background is in exercise science and I am eternally grateful that sports injuries and looking for 'balance' in my training led me to discover initially the physical benefits of Yoga. It was from there a pleasant surprise to realise that my journey into Yoga was much more than just a physical experience. The benefits of a strong and flexible physical body also allowing my mind to become stronger and more flexible.

In tradition the word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India. Union of the mind, body and soul resulting in a harmonious sense of health and wellbeing.

Some of the general health benefits from yoga are strength and flexibility due to the practice of yoga postures, each with their specific purpose and benefit and creating a feeling of vitality and lightness throughout the body. The postures also improve and maintain the health of the inner organs due to the revitalizing massage effect the postures provide. Some mediation is involved, helping you to relax, unwind and give your body time to rest and let the practice perform its magic. Then there is breath control, a series of techniques, which steady the mind, regulate the heart rate and blood pressure as well as providing instant relief from stress or tiredness.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR PRACTICING YOGA
· Arrive at least 5 minutes early for class to settle in. As respect for fellow students, please make sure your mobile phones are switched off.
· Try not to eat anything heavy for at least two hours before practice, however fruit or a light snack is okay. This is because internal pressure is created in some postures so having a full stomach can be quite uncomfortable.
· Wear non restrictive clothing and shoes are not required
· Do not strain or force any of the posture and if you feel and pain release the pose and let your teacher know so they may guide you into a more comfortable individual position.
· REMEMBER TO BREATHE!

Yoga is an individual and unique expererience, free from judgement and expectation of yourself and others.

There is no need to be flexible already to practice Yoga; it caters for all fitness levels.
